Black Bear Scenic Byway

Florida Black Bear Scenic BywayIn 2006, Sandra Friend got involved with a local effort to designate State Road 40 from Silver Springs to Ormond Beach as the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway. Through the efforts of the many volunteer members of the group, the state designated SR 40 a scenic byway in February 2008, and the federal government bestowed National Scenic Highway status to the road in 2009.

Sandra created this nonprofit website. Her photos add interest to many pages of the site; content is derived from documents developed by the committee and from her knowledge of the region. It has since been passed along to another committee volunteer for upkeep.
