Cool Signs: Lakeland - Southgate Plaza
Posted by Rob Smith, Jr.Nov 1
Here we are in Lakeland at 3800 US Hwy 98 North. If this looks familiar, this location was featured in the film ‘Edward Scissorhands’.
The Plaza is anchored by a Publix as it has been for more than 40 years.
TheĀ feature above was common in plazas like this at one time. This is one of the last active ones in Florida. Most are filled in and turned into store space.

A historic strip mall … who would have thought such a thing existed. Swampy has a good eye!
Went here in ‘07 when I was in town for the Florida State League All-Star Game at Joker Marchant; great hobby shop with lots of vintage model kits!
I grew up in Lakeland. I always thought this was a normal store front until I moved away.
Oh memories!
