Based on her hiking adventures and hiking books, Sandra first launched this website as a blog in the winter of 2006, and worked with several different content management systems before settling on her current use of Joomla. Thanks to relevant, expert content, this site pops up at the top of search engine rankings and hosts thousands of visitors per month. A YouTube channel and podcast (available on iTunes, keyword: florida hikes) now accentuate the offerings at Florida Hikes! This website won the top award for "Trails and Travel" from American Trails in 2007.

 In 2006, Sandra got involved with a local effort to designate State Road 40 from Silver Springs to Ormond Beach as the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway. Through the efforts of many volunteer members of the group, the state designated SR 40 a scenic byway in February 2008. Sandra created and continues to maintain this nonprofit website ... Rob designed the logo for the site. Sandra's photos add interest to many pages of the site; content is derived from documents developed by the committee.
